Award-winning architect Doug Reynolds founded Reynolds Architecture Design & Construction in 1995 with a solid philosophy: to design architecturally significant homes and ensure superior construction. By building a team of dedicated professionals with attention to detail matching his own, Doug has designed an impressive portfolio of spectacular homes across Chicago’s North Shore and beyond. We have had the sincere pleasure of working with Doug and team to illuminate some of their latest masterpieces, which we are thrilled to share with you today!

Double walnut doors, marble floors and a Darlana Medium Lantern by E.F. Chapman make for a grand entry in a Winnetka, IL residence designed and built by the Reynolds team. A dramatic, 20-foot tall window provides a backdrop for the dramatic stair hall featuring Darlana Wall Lanterns by E.F. Chapman.

One of the many ways Reynolds Architecture Design and Construction raises the bar is their custom millwork and cabinetry capabilities. The architectural woodwork, moulding and trim seen throughout their work is fabricated by a team of in-house designers and craftsmen, ensuring flawless execution from start to finish. In the sun-filled family dining area, a Crystal Stacked Ball Hanging Shade by E.F. Chapman hangs from a custom stained and painted v-groove ceiling. Chelsea Medium Reflection Sconces by E.F. Chapman add accent light over the sideboard.

Doug’s design aesthetic is inspired by Classical European and American Traditional architecture styles infused with modern details. The clean lines and polished nickel finish of the Osborne Lanterns by E.F. Chapman bring contemporary appeal to the beautiful master bedroom.

Cross Bouillotte Small Sconces by E. F. Chapman light his-and-hers vanities on either side of a freestanding tub in the luxurious master bathroom.

Doug’s exquisite craftsmanship is on display throughout this lakefront residence in Barrington Hills, IL. The gourmet kitchen features custom cabinetry, hand-painted tile and a pair of Ruhlmann Hanging Shades by E.F. Chapman lighting the island.

The team’s expertise in all aspects of the design-build process ensures every home they construct or renovate lives up to its full potential. In the breakfast room adjacent to the kitchen, the placement of floor-to-ceiling windows allows for scenic views of the lake. The timeless Ruhlmann Large Chandelier by E.F. Chapman hangs above the table in this casual dining space.

Their fine attention to each client’s individual needs results in truly unique and useful spaces. For this client, a well-organized gift wrapping room was on the wish list! A Katie Globe Pendant by Thomas O’Brien hangs above the elegant wrapping desk with ample storage and rods for conveniently holding rolls of paper.

Katrina Hernandez and Joshua Greene of New York design firm Hernandez Greene are best known for their fresh, inviting and inspiring interiors. When Domino enlisted the design duo to decorate two model units at Manhattan condo building Citizen360, the result surpassed all expectations. Tour the luxurious yet livable units and shop the lighting featured throughout! Photography by Victor Harshbarger.

In apartment 25A, Hernandez Greene layered a medley of textures in tones of white, grey and sandy beige. Tall ceilings and spacious rooms allowed for large-scale lighting, including a pair of Clarkson Chandeliers by AERIN and Carter Apothecary Pot Table Lamps by Ralph Lauren Home.

The designers selected a second Clarkson Chandelier by AERIN to light the minimalist dining area. The soft finish of the Linden Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler stands out against latticework-patterned wallpaper in the adjacent study.

SHoP Architects designed the 34-story building in the Yorkville neighborhood of the Upper East Side with city views in mind. Hernandez Green selected sheer fabrics to accentuate the floor-to-ceiling windows featured throughout 25A. The master bedroom is lit by the Cristol Tiered Chandelier by AERIN overhead, and a pair of Carter Small Table Lamps by Ralph Lauren Home at the bedside.

Subtle hints of color were woven into the strictly neutral palette through artwork and accessories. The Alta Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler accents a walnut dresser in the master bedroom.

The designers showcased richer hues and materials in 25B, while maintaining a look Greene describes as “chic, clean, and approachable.” The living room features the Gaios Table Lamp by AERIN and Morris Large Lantern by Suzanne Kasler.

Wave-patterned wallpaper sets the breezy tone of the master bedroom. The Volcanic Verdi finish of the Gaios Table Lamps by AERIN accentuates hints of green in the abstract painting above the headboard.

“Because the ceiling height is so high, you truly need large-sized pieces to fill those spaces,” Hernandez told Domino. The designers chose an impactful painting and the oversized Beton Large Table Lamp by Kelly Wearstler to achieve an intimate atmosphere in a spacious room.  An architectural canopy bed and bold wallpaper make a statement in the second of three bedrooms. Warm, neutral accents including the Gannet Table Lamps by AERIN evoke a cozy yet sophisticated feel.

When Emmy Rossum purchased her pre-war apartment in Midtown Manhattan, she knew it would need a lot of work. The actress enlisted ELLE DECOR and designer Antonino Buzzetta to transform her 800-square-foot “pied-à-teardown” into the home of her dreams.

Joshua McHugh

Joshua McHugh

The style Rossum sought to achieve was “chic, European, the look of a modern girl who has inherited her grandmother’s stuff. I wanted it to have a young energy, but with old-fashioned touches,” she told Buzzetta. The living room features an antique fireplace Rossum found while shopping with her mother at the Marché aux Puces in Paris.

The herringbone wood floors were among the only original elements to remain after the extensive renovation. In the new build, Buzzetta added architectural features and refreshed the built-in bookshelves to channel the history of the 1928 building.

Irving Penn photographs and an antique chandelier (see similar style below) Rossum inherited from her grandmother grace the elegant dining area.

Buzzetta created extra surface space in the compact kitchen by tearing down a wall and building a breakfast bar in its place. To brighten the ebonized cabinetry, he selected Caesarstone quartz countertops and pair of globe pendants inspired by vintage subway lights.

When choosing finishes, “Mixing metals is a much more relaxed approach,” Buzzetta said. He selected brass task lights and a timeless crystal chandelier with polished nickel accents in the bedroom. The soothing wall color is Farrow & Ball’s Parma Gray.
